Alessandro Bavari (IT/FR), an Italian-French artist educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, has been fascinated with photography, painting, and music since childhood. Over the years, he experimented with various techniques, combining disciplines and using photography as a central expressive medium.
Recognized as a pioneer of digital art and a leading figure in contemporary surrealism, Bavari began exploring digital artistic languages in 1993, developing a personal style that blends tradition and technology. In 2011, he won the prestigious Golden Nica at the Prix Ars Electronica for Metachaos, awarded first prize for best animation. This visionary work led to his collaboration with 20th Century Fox in 2017, when Ridley Scott personally contacted him to serve as concept artist for Alien: Covenant.
Bavari has since continued working as art director in cinema with figures such as Gabriele Lavia and Luca Guadagnino, while also contributing as a concept artist and art director in the video game industry. His career is marked by numerous awards beyond the Golden Nica, including the “Digital Hall of Fame Award” at the 3D Festival Awards in Copenhagen, the Adobe “Power of Design” award in London, the International Digital Art Award in Australia, and recognition at the Clio, One Show, and Art Directors Club Awards, among others.
His work has been published in countless magazines and art books, and is studied in universities and institutions worldwide. Bavari’s art has been exhibited internationally in venues such as the Louvre’s Salon Art Paris, the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, the Jyväskylä Art Museum in Finland, the Devos Art Museum in the USA, the Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo, and the Palace of the Arts in Naples, among many others.
A multifaceted artist, he lives in Italy, continuing his practice as a painter, photographer, visual artist, art director, and musician.
