Christian Feichtinger

PhD Student in Human-Computer Interaction, Self-Employed Game Developer @ University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria

Christian Feichtinger (AT) is a PhD student specializing in human-computer interaction and interactive 3D applications. His research focuses on spatial orientation in digital games and examines how subtle environmental cues can support players’ orientation. His work includes a taxonomy of environmental cues and design pointers for maintaining spatial orientation in 3D games, published at FDG 2025, as well as empirical research on how minimal landmark properties can stabilize spatial orientation, published at ACM CHI 2026. He holds a Master of Arts in Arts and Design from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, completed with distinction, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Media Technology and Design. Additionally, he is pursuing a second Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Johannes Kepler University. Alongside academia, he co-founded a game development company and serves as Creative Director on Unreal Engine 5 projects, enabling him to connect HCI research with game development.
