Philipp Thölke

Visual artist, software engineer & researcher @ Wihanble S'a Center, Bard College

Philipp Thölke (DE) is a computational neuroscientist and artist working at the intersection of brain science, creative technology, and artificial intelligence. With a background in AI and neuroscience, he builds real-time systems that translate brain activity into visual, auditory, and interactive media—bridging analysis with creative exploration. His work centers on EEG, biosignals, and neurofeedback, with the goal of developing new tools for intuitive and embodied brain-computer interfaces.

Philipp designs modular pipelines for signal processing and real-time feedback using frameworks like PyTorch, TouchDesigner, and custom electronics. One of the core projects, goofi-pipe, is a flexible neurofeedback platform designed for both research and experimental media applications. He is particularly interested in brain complexity, criticality, and how these dynamics shift during altered states of consciousness. The deeper purpose behind this work is to explore the mind in novel ways, creating systems that not only measure but interact with consciousness, perception, and experience.
