Keon Ju Maverick Lee is a Korean-Canadian electroacoustic and acousmatic artist-researcher, electronic percussionist, composer, and audiovisual creator working across avant-garde electronic music and immersive media. Their practice treats timbre, sound diffusion, and spatial motion as central compositional materials, using loudspeaker arrays and binaural headphones as complementary listening environments.
As a research-creation PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University’s Metacreation Lab for Creative AI, Lee develops co-creative musical agents and interactive systems for live percussion performance. Their research also explores large-scale music datasets and computational approaches to music analysis.
Keon’s performances, installations, and collaborations have been presented at the Society for Arts and Technology, MUTEK, WeSA, MusicAcoustica, Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, and the AI Song Contest, where their work was a Top 10 finalist in 2024. Their research has appeared through TISMIR, ISMIR, NIME, AIMC, and NeurIPS. Their recent spatial work was selected for Canada’s preselection for the Petites Formes 2026 Acousmatic Composition Competition.
Philippe Pasquier is a Professor in Simon Fraser University’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology, where he directs the Metacreation Lab for Creative AI. His work lies at the intersection of generative AI, computational creativity, human-AI co-creation, and participatory creative systems.
The Metacreation Lab develops human-centred approaches to AI design that emphasize co-creation, direct manipulation, and user agency rather than automation and replacement. Its research-creation practice spans music, moving image, and interactive media, with work presented internationally at venues including MUTEK, Ars Electronica, Centre Pompidou, and the Sydney Biennale.
Pasquier has co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, including nine best-paper award recipients. He also teaches a widely followed MOOC on generative art and computational creativity and collaborates with artists, researchers, and the software industry to integrate co-creative technologies into real-world creative practices.
