Media artist & lecturer @ Shanghai Institute of Visual Art
Huang Wei (CN) is a Shanghai-based media artist, lecturer, and researcher whose practice explores the intersection of expanded cinema and experimental games. He holds an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis and a BA from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, Huang serves as a lecturer and researcher at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, where he contributes to the Roy Ascott Studio Advanced Program in Technoetic Arts and the Department of Digital Media Art.
His interdisciplinary approach involves collaborating with installation and performance artists, musicians, engineers, and multimedia creators to produce immersive, spatio-temporal experiences. Through these projects, Huang examines how emerging technologies act as evolutionary pressures, reshaping contemporary humanity’s socio-political structures and biological realities.
Huang’s work has been recognized by prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Lumen Prize and Ann Arbor Film Festival. He has exhibited and performed at venues such as the Shanghai Concert Hall, Shaanxi Opera House, and Kemper Art Museum, while also leading collaborations with industry pioneers including Tencent, BMW, Audi, Adidas, Bilibili, and JNBY.
